We came in five years ago as the school's fractional CTO, when operations still ran out of Excel, Google Sheets, and a sprawl of Docs. We absorbed the systems, the network, and the institutional knowledge the previous setup had never written down — and have been the school's single technology partner ever since, through an accreditation cycle, the build-out from K-8 into a full K-12 program, and the opening of a third campus.
Software & Records
Implemented Blackbaud end to end — SIS, EMS, Tuition Management, Enrollment, and Contracts — and migrated every student, family, and historical record into it. The school started at roughly 350 students and 200+ families; the data model has grown with them. We also administer Google Workspace school-wide and wrote the student, parent, and teacher handbooks along with the new-faculty onboarding process.
Multi-Campus Infrastructure
Designed and built the third campus from a bare shell — access points, IP cameras, door access, the speaker and bell system, and the projector and robotics-lab rollouts. At the original two campuses, we took over IT, restored network connectivity that had quietly been failing for years, and consolidated all three sites onto a single VLAN and access-control model. The classroom touchscreens at one campus are integrated with the rest of the stack rather than living as an island.
Unified Communications
Consolidated all three campuses onto a single Grandstream PBX. Every staff extension is reachable from a desk phone or a mobile app, so the school behaves as one phone system instead of three disconnected ones.
Web & Digital
Designed and shipped the first two versions of the public site in-house, then advised their team through a third version they owned themselves. We stayed in the loop for editorial decisions and ongoing technical questions.
Ongoing Operations
Run Google Workspace, network security, and camera security day to day — including pulling and reviewing footage when an incident needs investigating. We own the printer vendor relationship as well: equipment is specified, deployed, kept on a maintenance plan, and wired to scan-to-email through Workspace. School-wide asset tracking is the current build.
Outcome
Five years in. Three campuses on one stack, an accreditation cycle that came and went without a vendor-related fire drill, and a fractional-CTO relationship that has never needed to be renegotiated — it simply continues.
